Yesterday's Socializing.
I think I've become a groupie of the Credentials Committee.
Yesterday I spent a good chunk of the afternoon with J.J. the Florida rep to the CC. We had a good walk up and down 16th street talking about politics and comics.
Aside: I swear, I've talked more about comics yesterday than I ever expected. When I go to the Comic Geek Speak Super Show in the fall, I doubt I'll be getting to talk as much about politics there.
Later J.J. ran into other members of the CC and I joined them as they gathered for drinks, and I accompanied a good number of them out to dinner.
It was a great meal and conversation. We talked about the curiosities of our local governments, ballot access laws, Airport security, and all sorts of things.
Returning back to the hotel, I arrived late to the Masquerade ball, a nice affair where the theme was to "come as your favorite cause". I've tried to travel lighter this trip, so the "costume" I put together was just to wear a Comic Book Legal Defense Fund T-Shirt, and carry some comics with me.
Some people came in elaborate period costumes, which was brave given how warm the room was. One staffer from George Phillies looked stunning in a cocktail dress that was an even more stunning transformation given how conservatively she dresses normally.
Please note, I said SHE, Starchild has yet to be seen.
Bob Barr and George Phillies both made appearances, someone was videotaping the event and interviewing people. Food, drink, and conversation was flowing well until we were ushered out, as the volunteers needed their rest for the early start this morning.
I then went to George Philies' hospitality suite where political conversations extended until WAY too late into the evening.
Never mind the main event, this socializing, getting to meet new people, and talk at length with them is the best part of events like this.
