Re: Letterman's ill advised joke.

This is what happens when you lose perspective on political humor, and you parse every public appearance or utterance for potential mockery. The groanings you heard from the audience during a Top 10 list on Sara Palin should've been a hint that you're drifting away from actual comedy and into “Two-Minute Hate” territory.

To: Conservative critics of Letterman

Be careful, some of you are overplaying the outrage. Overplaying the word "rape" in your critiques is one example. His intended target was the 18 year old daughter. Just because it actually was the 14 year old at the game, and if she were to be impregnated by an adult, it would be statutory rape, does not mean you can imply that Letterman was joking about the rape of a teenager.

This and other excesses in the criticism of Letterman come across more as political posturing, trying to attack those who dare criticize Gov. Palin. Some will counter that you are trying to squelch opponents. And keeping up with demands for Letterman's repeated apology and one in a manner you'd prefer, you are treading close to that territory.

To: The National Organization for Women

It's well known that you're more of the National Organization for Liberal Women, so it is refreshing to see you speak out on this issue as you have. I may cringe a bit as you try to judo this back on conservatives, but at least it's in the form of a call for consistent civility, and not just selective outrage.

To: Allahpundit

And it's good to see a conservative take up the civility challenge that N.O.W. put out. If this keeps up, we may actually end up with civility in politics yet!
